verdict 「評決」は、陪審員による有罪か無罪かの宣告（答申）。
sentence 「判決」は、裁判官による刑の宣告。
アリスが “Stuff and nonsense！”だけ切り離して発言したのは、強意のため。
『地下の国のアリス』では、アリスが “Nonsense！”と叫んだために、everybody jumped，「皆が飛び上がった」ほど。
『地下の国』での王妃のセリフは “first the sentence，and then the evidence！”「判決が先、証拠は後」だった。
『鏡の国』では、白の王妃の話によると、最初に牢屋に入って刑罰を受け、次に裁判、最後に犯罪が起こるという順序 （5章）。
